Government lab seeks new THC-detection equipment
A vendor is being sought by the Government to replace “obsolete” equipment used to test items for cannabis.
A request for proposals, recently published on the government procurement website, said the Central Government Lab was seeking a partner to supply and install a high-performance liquid chromatograph.
The notice said that the CGL, operated by the Department of Health, is responsible for the analysis of drugs and other materials seized by the Bermuda Police Service.
The lab may also be called upon to provide analysis for drugs and other materials imported for sale to make sure the products meet legal requirements.
“In particular, the CGL has the responsibility for providing cannabinoid profiles in cannabis and cannabis products — in particular tetrahydrocannabinolic acid, which is heat-sensitive,” the notice said.
“The equipment which the CGL purchased in 2009 is now obsolete, cannot be repaired and does not have the ability to analyse THCA.
“As a result, the CGL is issuing a request for proposals for the supply of high-performance liquid chromatography equipment with diode array detection.”
The notice said the successful vendor would be required to supply, install, calibrate and maintain the new equipment and provide training for staff at the lab.
The deadline for submissions was listed as 4pm on November 3.
