Toothless UN has outlived its usefulness
Dear Sir,
Again we see the uselessness of the United Nations.
The UN was formed after the Second World War to prevent any more wars. Like its predecessor, the League of Nations, it has proved it has no power to solve the problems developing between national entities.
One of the worst conflicts was the genocide in Rwanda many years ago. No one intervened. Was it because it was not an oil-rich country?
When Russia moved into Afghanistan — they were there for eight years — no one blinked an eye.
As an organisation, the UN should have resolved the war in Ukraine and the Gaza-Palestine problem. Unfortunately owing to its inaction, hundreds of thousands of people have died.
Representatives are living in New York in the lap of luxury and achieve nothing.
I will agree there are some subsidiaries such as the World Health Organisation and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, which are productive. But the main body should be abolished, going the same way as the League of Nations.
