Homeless man jailed three months for trespassing at bank
A homeless man was jailed for three months yesterday after he trespassed at a bank.
Eric Richardson, 34, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court to going into HSBC, despite a letter of notice prohibiting him from doing so.
The court heard that the bank had banned Richardson, of no fixed abode, from attending its premises on Front Street and Reid Street in Hamilton.
The prohibition was communicated to him through a letter sent to his most recently listed residence.
However, on August 19, Richardson followed a customer to HSBC’s ATMs on Front Street and harassed a woman there.
The customer eventually left before returning to complete her transaction and complaining to management.
Richardson was found and arrested for the incident.
Magistrate Craig Attridge heard that Richardson had been a repeat offender and was serving a 45-day sentence for common assault at the time of his court appearance.
Richardson, of no fixed abode, told the court that he was unaware of the notice.
However, because of his extensive history of offences, Mr Attridge sentenced him to three months’ imprisonment.
