Doctors invited to hearing health talk supported by Mass Gen
Hearing health will come into focus at a continuing medical education event this month.
Mass General Brigham, based in Boston, is to sponsor the session, which will cover how people can be affected at different ages.
The programme, Sound Beginnings to Lifelong Hearing: A Clinical Update on Hearing Health from Childhood to Adulthood, will run on October 22 at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute.
It will cover best practices and the latest research for the prevention and treatment of common hearing concerns seen in children, adolescents and adults, including seniors.
“The event is designed for paediatricians, internal and family medicine physicians and geriatricians,” a spokeswoman said.
“Mass General Brigham and its member hospital, Mass Eye and Ear, care for hundreds of Bermudian patients each year, working closely with local physicians to ensure patients receive high quality care both on the island and in Boston.
“The organisation also visits Bermuda regularly, including participating annually in events such as Bermuda End-to-End and the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre’s Relay for Life, to support local healthcare initiatives and partnerships.
“The education event will feature presentations from four experts — two otolaryngologists and two audiologists from Mass Eye and Ear.
“The programme will conclude with an interactive Q&A session.”
A complimentary dinner from Harbourfront Restaurant will be offered to attendees after the presentations, with the presenters and Mass General Brigham international team.
Daniel Lee, a course director and director of international patient services at Mass Eye and Ear, said: “We’re so pleased for this opportunity to be able to share our insights with Bermuda’s healthcare professionals.
“Our goal is to empower local clinicians in feeling confident in identifying and managing hearing concerns early, so patients receive the right care at the right time.”
Rachel Burns, an audiologist at Bermuda Hearing Services, added: “This programme will be an excellent resource for Bermuda’s medical community and provides a rare opportunity to acquire CME credits on the island.
“As the island’s population ages, hearing concerns are increasingly of interest and we appreciate having access to the latest research and practical guidance from Mass General Brigham’s experts close to home.”
The free event will be open to all healthcare professionals on the island, with two CME credits offered for participation.
