PLP conference to celebrate changing of guard
The Progressive Labour Party is set to open its 60th annual general conference next week with awards, entertainment and tributes.
It will mark the final conference with David Burt, the Premier, as party leader if he follows through with plans to step down in one year’s time.
The opening night on Wednesday at the Ruth Seaton James Auditorium will feature speeches from Mr Burt along with Jaché Adams, the Minister of Public Works and Environment, and Aaron Crichlow, founder of Bermuda Is Love.
A party statement called the conference a cornerstone of the party’s democratic tradition, providing an “opportunity for members, delegates and supporters from across the island to come together to reflect, reconnect and recommit to our shared vision for a fairer, more just Bermuda”.
The conference, which this year will be themed “Leading for the Next Generation”, will span several days with discussions, workshops and engagements focused on policies and strategies to meet the present and future needs of Bermuda.
Dawn Simmons, PLP chairwoman, said: “As we celebrate 62 years of service, struggle and progress, this conference is not just a reflection of our past.
“It’s a declaration of our commitment to preparing and empowering the next generation of leaders who will continue the work of building towards a better, fairer Bermuda for all of us.”
• The main events of opening night of The Progressive Labour Party’s 2025 conference at the Ruth Seaton James Auditorium, at Prospect, Devonshire, are scheduled to start at 7pm, Wednesday, with a “special social hour” between 6pm and 6.45pm
