Weekend triathlon to affect traffic in Sandys
A triathlon will affect traffic in the West End on Sunday morning, the Ministry of Public Works and Environment has announced.
A spokesman urged motorists to use caution during the Bermuda Triathlon Association Cambridge Beaches triathlon and bicycle road race.
All cyclists will proceed from Cambridge Beaches to Mangrove Bay Road and Malabar Road — with the youngest participants cycling to Kitchener Road and back to the hotel.
All other participants will race to Maritime Lane and make a right near Dockyard Terrace, but cyclists between 11 and 15 years old will head back to the hotel along a different route than adults.
A speed limit will be in place during the race, set to take place between 7.30am and 9.30am.
No traffic will be permitted along the bicycle route and no parking will be allowed near the turnaround west of Watford Bridge.
Police are permitted to close streets or restrict parking along the route as authorised by the commissioner.
The spokesman also said that the traffic lights at the junction of South Road and Collector’s Hill in Smith’s are out of service at present.
He explained: “As a safety measure, temporary stop signs have been placed at the intersection until the lights are repaired.
“Motorists are urged to approach the area with caution, observe the new signage and be considerate of other road users.”
