Nominees for 2025 Teaching Awards are announced
Some of the island’s most respected educators have been selected as nominees for the Bermuda Education Network’s annual Teaching Awards.
Working in partnership with sponsor Allied World Bermuda, BEN’s ten finalists were nominated by administration, colleagues, parents and students from across the island’s public schools.
Organisers said the finalists “represent excellence in instruction, student support, inclusion and innovation”.
Latoya Pearman, the selection committee chairwoman, said: “These finalists were selected for their ability to create inclusive, high-expectation classrooms, their dedication to student development and their leadership within their school communities.
“Many have contributed to improved literacy outcomes, strengthened school culture and innovative practices that benefit both colleagues and students.”
Kelly Massa: P2 teacher, Somerset Primary School
Sara Westhead: digital literacy and IGCSE English teacher, Whitney Institute Middle School
Denika Wade: social studies teacher, Whitney Institute
Zola French Ray: autism spectrum disorder class teacher, West Pembroke Primary School
Terry Henry: music teacher, Northlands Primary School and Paget Primary School
Suzette Cheeseman: deputy principal and reading teacher, St David’s Primary School
Stephanie Hughes: reading teacher, West End Primary Primary School
Shayla Morton: P5 teacher, Francis Patton Primary School
Karen Trott: learning support teacher, Purvis Primary School
Tabathia Roberts: P1 and P2 teacher, East End Primary School
Colm Singleton, the head of Allied World Bermuda, said: “Good teachers shape students’ futures by fostering essential skills and confidence.
“Allied World is proud to once again support the BEN Teaching Awards. Wishing all the finalists the best of luck.”
The finalists will be recognised at a special event on January 23, where the overall winner will be announced.
The awards event will also highlight examples of impactful teaching practices and celebrate the broader contributions of Bermuda’s education community.
