Senior at double legal limit banned from driving
An 82-year-old man caught driving with more than twice the legal limit of alcohol has been disqualified from driving all vehicles for 18 months.
Carl Burton admitted drink-driving when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
The court heard that a witness saw Burton drive his car erratically near Tamarind Vale in Warwick on December 21. He was stopped by police near Wreck Road in Sandys.
Officers smelt alcohol on Burton’s breath, saw that he was unsteady on his feet and took him to Hamilton Police Station, where breath tests showed between 195 and 197 milligrams of alcohol within 100 millilitres of his blood. The legal limit for driving in Bermuda is 80mg/100ml.
In addition to the ban, Burton, from Southampton, was fined $1,500 for the offence.
