An inaugural summit for regional tourism and aviation stakeholders to align strategies and address air connectivity challenges achieved “tangible outcomes”, the Minister of Tourism, Transport, Culture and Sport said.

Owen Darrell also told the House of Assembly that a significant milestone in the signing of an agreement to strengthen regional air access was achieved at the one-day Air Connectivity Summit at the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club on Tuesday.

The gathering was convened by the Caribbean Tourism Organisation in collaboration with the Bermuda Tourism Authority and the Government.

Mr Darrell said a memorandum of understanding was signed between the CTO and Airports Council International for Latin America and the Caribbean to formalise strategic co-operation to strengthen regional air access.

The MOU ensures collaboration on several issues including training and capacity building, joint research on aviation-related issues and hosting of events relating to air connectivity, aviation and tourism.

Mr Darrell said discussions at the summit proved “dynamic and solutions focused”.

He said leaders spoke candidly about the need to strengthen regional air links, reduce travel costs and pursue bold partnerships that improve access across the Caribbean.
