Some of the world’s best professional squash players will be on island next month for the Starr Bermuda Open.

The event, scheduled for April 14 to 18 at the Devonshire squash courts, is set to feature elite men and women from across the globe competing for the prestigious title of Bermuda Open champion.

Headlining the draw are top seeds Karim El Torky and Sabrina Sobhy, both ranked inside the world’s top 20 and widely regarded as among the most exciting players on the professional tour.

The two will face strong competition throughout the draw, including from No 2 seed Miguel Rodriguez in the men’s event and second seed Lucy Turmel on the women’s side, ensuring a week of world-class squash in Bermuda.

Also included are a number of rising stars and regional standouts, including Bermuda’s Taylor Carrick, the island’s only touring professional squash player. Carrick will compete in front of a home crowd as he looks to make an impact against a deep international field.

Also competing as wild cards are two of the Caribbean’s top players, Meagan Best and Khamal Cumberbatch, who captured titles at the Caribbean Championships in November.

Best and Cumberbatch are aiming to accumulate valuable ranking points as they pursue qualification opportunities ahead of the Los Angeles Olympic Games, in which squash will make its Olympic debut.

The women’s draw also features notable Caribbean professionals Margot Prow (Barbados) and Mary Fung-A-Fat (Guyana), contributing to what organisers believe is one of the strongest gatherings of Caribbean touring professionals assembled at a Bermuda event.

Micah Franklin, the head of squash at the Bermuda Squash Association, expressed his excitement about the tournament’s return:

“We are thrilled to have this tournament back on our calendar again after a successful 2025,” Franklin said.

“Based off of the entry list, I think we are in for a real treat. We have some of the world’s most exciting squash players battling it out on Bermuda's very own court, all desperate to break into the world’s top 20.

“Within the pack we will have Bermuda’s very own Taylor Carrick representing, who is Bermuda’s only current touring professional squash player. He will have his work cut out for him, but I’m sure he’s up for the challenge.

“The 2026 Starr Open is made possible through the continued support of its title sponsor Starr, along with platinum sponsor Orbis, with Arch and Chubb as gold sponsors and QBE Re as silver sponsors.

“Tournament organisers extend their sincere thanks to these partners for helping bring world-class squash to Bermuda once again.”
