The Royal Gazette understands that Bermuda legend Shaun Goater is among those being considered for the vacant senior national coaching job.

The former Bermuda and Manchester City striker has previously expressed an interest to serve in the role and according to a recent Royal Gazette poll, he is the best candidate to succeed Michael Findlay in the top post.

According to reliable sources, Goater is facing competition from at least one other candidate to fill the void. The Gazette has reached out to the Bermuda Football Association for comment on the matter.

Goater, who netted 103 goals in 211 appearances for City between 1998 and 2003, boasts previous coaching experience after serving on the academy coaching staff at Manchester City as part as part of an initiative geared towards increasing the number of Black, Asian and ethnic minority coaches working full time in professional football after successfully applying through the Premier League’s Coach Inclusion and Diversity Scheme.

The Uefa A licence holder served on City’s academy coaching staff in a varied role for three years, working across all the academy age groups from the foundation phase up to the professional development phase, also serving as an assistant to City Women's boss Gareth Taylor before joining Premier League rivals Villa.

He was also interim head coach and assistant coach of Women’s Super League outfit Aston Villa and head coach of childhood club Village, whom he guided to league and cup honours during a highly successful tenure at the helm.

Canadian Findlay parted ways with the BFA by mutual consent this week, with the announcement of his departure arriving just days before the national team are scheduled to play an international friendly against potential World Cup qualifiers Democratic Republic of Congo in Mexico next Wednesday.

The team will be led by BFA technical development director Maurice Lowe who will be assisted by X-Roads Warriors head coach Farid El Karfa.
