Andre “Doc” Manders is making his presence felt on his debut at the USA Legends Over 60 International Quad Series in Los Angeles.

The Bermudian all-rounder has shone with both bat and ball representing a Rest of the World team as his team’s second-highest runscorer (61 runs) and also their second-highest wickettaker (three) after two group matches at Woodley Park.

“The experience has been good so far and it feels good to be able to contribute to the team,” he told The Royal Gazette.

The former Somerset Cup Match captain managed five runs batting at No 4 before being trapped in front but enjoyed more success in the field, having claimed one for 26 and held onto two catches in the Rest of the World’s 19 -run win over USA Legends- Eagles in their tournament opener at Wright Cricket Field on Monday.

He then claimed two for 42 and stroked 53 from 71 balls for his maiden half-century at the tournament to be named as man of the match for his team in a 25-run loss to unbeaten group leaders Canada in their second outing at Severn Cricket Field the following day.

Manders and team-mate Greg Caracciolo featured in a 111-run third-wicket partnership that got the Rest of the World’s chase back on track after being reduced to two for 22 in the sixth over, replying to Canada’s 238 for five in the 45 over contest.

However, the pendulum swung back in unbeaten group leaders Canada’s favour for good after Caracciolo retired hurt and Manders was caught behind attempting to drive through the covers.

“We were in the game but then Greg got hurt and couldn’t run so they had to retire him,” Manders said.

“We lost about 15 to 20 runs off of my runs because he couldn’t run anymore. I was hitting the ball way out there but he was only able to run once.

“They sent in some of the other guys to hit but they got out. We were then 133 for three and then I got caught behind on 53 and we lost our momentum and ended up getting 213 for four and losing by 25 runs.”

Manders was also pleased to make an impact with the ball after being brought into the attack as first change in the thirteenth over of Canada’s innings.

“Coming on as first change you still have the restrictions because only three fielders can be out of the circle, so my main thing was trying to restrict them,” he said.

“I can only have three outside so I bowled to the offside of the field and ended up getting two wickets; one caught behind and the other bowled.”

Manders and his team-mates are third in the standings behind second place USA Legends — Eagles on net run-rate heading into their final group match against USA Legends — Hawks at Severn Cricket Field on Thursday.

Canada, who top the standings with four points, are also in action today against USA Legends-Eagles in their final group match at Wright Cricket Field.

The top two teams after completion of the round robin stage will compete for group honours in the final on Friday.
