Let’s celebrate our resurrection from things that ‘beset us’
As we continue on the last leg of Lent towards Resurrection Sunday, hopefully many have drawn closer to God in their relationship with Him.
While it is traditional for persons across denominations, practitioners of other faith and observers of no particular faith to give attention to withdrawing from certain foods, engaging in specific practices or activities during this season. However, it is unfortunate that this engagement (for many) has an expiry date: Resurrection Sunday.
People have engaged in specified practices just for the Season of Lent, and often return to their focused practice on or after Resurrection Sunday.
What sense does this make? If the very thing that has been a stumbling block for one's spiritual growth is premeditatedly returned to? Could this not be an exercise of futility even deception?
Perhaps Resurrection Sunday is more than celebrating Jesus' resurrection but also involves our celebrating our resurrection from the things that easily “beset us”.
Beloved, as we continue through this year, let’s allow our engagements to be a real spiritual growth journey and continue to refrain from that which was identified and needed to be tackled. After all, we have come this far!
God has brought us; God has helped us to “stick to the wicket”. 1 Samuel 7:12 King James Version, puts it like this: “Hither to the Lord helped us.”
Since this is so, know that God will continue to help us as we remain with our consecration with no expiration date.
Beloved, be challenged and encouraged. Sholom.
