Sailor Sebastian Kempe climbs leaderboard after terrific third
Sebastian Kempe has continued to make his way up the gold fleet leaderboard at French Olympic Week Regatta.
Kempe started the day in 42nd position and ended it in seventeenth after just two of the three scheduled elimination series took place on Wednesday, with the third postponed as race organisers struggled to get races in other categories finished.
It was in the second of the two races that Kempe was seen at his best as he crossed the line third in a field comprising the world’s best ILCA 7 sailors behind Dimitri Peroni, of France, and Matt Wearn, of Australia. He had earlier finished eighteenth in the opening race of the elimination series.
With slightly less wind forecast for Thursday, Kempe will hope to make further inroads, with only the top ten making it into the medal races.
Campbell Patton’s score was finally decided after he was forced to request a review of his score when he was given a DNC (Did Not Complete) in the second race.
In his request, Patton said that he had crossed the line in 33rd place between sailors from Canada and Turkey, with a decision taking place regarding his status. His review request was allowed and he is 35th overall.
Adriana Penruddocke, who just missed out on gold fleet in the ILCA 6 had a good day on the water and now leads silver fleet.
Penruddocke finished seventh and eighth in her two races and sits 46th overall
