Tough day for sailors in gold fleet

It proved a tough day for Bermuda’s ILCA 7 sailors in the gold fleet on the fourth day of the Olympic Regatta in France.

Sebastian Kempe and Campbell Patton both lost ground on the leaders after suffering frustrating days and finishing well down the pack in the two races sailed in Hyeres Bay.

Kempe, who had overcome a disqualification in the opening race of the regatta on Monday, had fought back well to start the day in seventeenth place, but he lost 11 places during the course of the day to sit 28th overall with one day remaining.

After finishing 34th in the opening contest on Thursday, Kempe bounced back to finish fifteenth in the second race before finishing a disappointing 40th in the final event of the day.

Patton started the day in 35th overall and ended the day two places lower at 37th. He finished 39th, 25th and 44th in his three races.

While things did not go particularly well for Bermuda’s ILCA 7 sailors, there was success on the water in silver fleet for Adriana Penruddocke.

Penruddocke beat off 37 other sailors to win the first of two races and still leads the silver fleet after finishing 21st in her second race. That keeps her in 46th overall
