From field to plate: young people in the Mirrors Programme treat guests to a home-grown meal (Photograph supplied)

Young people in the Mirrors Programme hosted a home-grown meal at Bermuda College.

Parents and other guests were treated to cuisine grown at the Field of Learning Garden Club, which has operated since 2022 at Southlands in Warwick.

Through a partnership with college instructor Tineika Eve and her students, sponsored by Maxcem Bermuda Ltd, five young people who completed the second term of the programme served the meal using produce they had planted, nurtured and harvested over the course of the term.

The course is run by Nelson Bascome Jr, the lead gardener, to give hands-on experience and learn about sustainability and personal responsibility.

Mr Bascome said the garden had yielded a strong harvest that included kale, Bermuda onions and broccoli, with participants contributing a total of 96.5 hours.

Tinée Furbert, the Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, said the programme contributed to “a more resilient Bermuda”.

Term 3 at Field of Learning is scheduled to begin on April 27. For more information, e-mail mirrors@gov.bm or call 294-9291
