Sailors finish tough week of competition
Campbell Patton and Sebastian Kempe’s French Olympic Week regatta campaigns wrapped up in Hyeres this afternoon.
Patton’s 11-race series came to an end in disappointing fashion after he was disqualified in the final race for crossing the start line in the final minute before the start.
Although allowed to drop that result from his card, it meant the Bermudian sailor was forced to count his score of 44, which came in the final race on the previous day.
Despite tremendous performance in the preliminary series, Patton struggled a little in gold fleet, with a best finishing position of 25th. He ended the regatta 41st overall.
Kempe had a chance of making it into the top 20 heading into the final two races and he started the day well with a solid twelfth-place finish. However, he found conditions tough in the concluding race, crossing the line in 34th place to finish 26th overall.
Despite winning her second race on the closing day of competition, Adriana Penruddocke was unable to hold on to her position at the top of silver fleet.
Penruddocke won the first of three races today but inconsistency cost her, with finishes of 11th and 27th in the final two contests resulting in her ending the regatta third in silver fleet and 48th overall.
