Fashion: this is what spring style looks like

Spring in Bermuda doesn’t arrive quietly. It shows up in colour, in movement, in the way people carry themselves. The shift isn’t just about clothes, it’s about energy. As the sun settles in and the air softens, the island starts to look lighter, brighter, more alive. And you see it immediately in how people dress.

Editorial stylist Shantia Seymour says: “The shift really starts with colour and attitude. As soon as the sun comes out, you see people leaning into brighter tones, lighter fabrics, and a more relaxed, effortless feel. There’s an ease that comes with the season — looks become softer, more fluid and reflective of the island’s energy.”

In Bermuda, though, style is never just about the weather. It’s about the lifestyle that comes with it. Warmer days mean more movement — after-work drinks, spontaneous dinners, beach stops that turn into full evenings. The wardrobe follows suit.

She continued: “In Bermuda, the weather and lifestyle really go hand in hand. The warm, beautiful climate naturally encourages people to be more social, whether that’s enjoying a cocktail, visiting a boutique hotel or relaxing by the pool or at the beach. So overall, I’d say the lifestyle is strongly influenced by the weather.”

And that’s where the seasonal staples come in, but not in the way you might expect. Yes, florals and pastels make their return, as they always do. But spring style here isn’t limited to the obvious. It’s about fabric, texture and ease.

Linen reappears in full force, cotton feels lighter and even neutral palettes take on a different energy when styled with intention. A tailored set in a breathable fabric can feel just as “spring” as a bold print — it all comes down to how it’s worn.

Where people tend to get it wrong is in the rush. The first warm day hits and suddenly it’s full summer — bare, minimal, stripped back. But Bermuda’s spring doesn’t work like that. It shifts throughout the day, warm in the sun, cooler in the breeze, unpredictable enough to require a second thought.

Ms Seymour says: “Spring is a transitional season, and I think people often move too quickly into full summer looks. While it may feel warm at times, the temperature can shift throughout the day, so layering is key. Lightweight pieces like a cardigan or jacket help balance both comfort and style.”

At its best, Bermuda style in spring feels effortless, but never accidental. “It’s polished without feeling overdone,” she says. “A mix of vibrant prints, thoughtful pops of colour, and lightweight pieces that move naturally. There’s a sense of individuality to it as well. People aren’t afraid to express their personal style while still looking refined and put together.”

And while there’s still a difference between everyday dressing and occasion wear, the lines are starting to blur. That’s part of the shift as well.

“Style shouldn’t be reserved for special occasions,” Ms Seymour adds. “There’s value in showing up well-dressed every day. It not only elevates your look, but also builds confidence and a sense of presence.”

In Bermuda, that might look like a simple linen dress styled with intention, or a casual outfit elevated just enough to feel considered. It’s not about excess, it’s about presence.

For those looking to refresh their wardrobe without starting from scratch, the answer isn’t to buy more. It’s to look again at what’s already there.

“I’d start by refining your core wardrobe — focusing on timeless, versatile pieces and reimagining how they’re styled. Often, a fresh perspective, paired with a few thoughtfully chosen accessories or standout additions, can elevate your entire look without the need for a complete reset.”

Because that’s what spring style in Bermuda really is. Not a complete overhaul, not a trend cycle, but a return to ease. A reminder that the best-dressed person in the room isn’t the one trying the hardest, it’s the one who looks like they didn’t have to.
