Peter Bromby still in title hunt at IOD World Championship
Peter Bromby remains in contention for top honours at the IOD World Championship in Marblehead, Massachusetts.
The Bermudian skipper and three-times IOD world champion sits in second after four races of the ten-race series, trailing American leader Peter Wickwire by six points.
Starting the second day of the regatta tied for first, Bromby and crew Bill McNiven, Ron Stan, Rick Echard and Martin Siese posted a 2, 6 record in the two races contested to relinquish subtle ground on the leaderboard.
American skipper Jonathan Farrar sits in third, a point behind Bromby.
Also flying Bermuda’s flag at the event is Kelsey Durham and crew Adam Barboza, Heath Foggo, Joanne Rogers and Michael Richold, who lost considerable ground on the leaderboard.
Durham started the day tied for third, four points off the lead pace, but slipped four spots to seventh after coming ashore with a 9, 9 record.
“My results don’t reflect how well we sailed today,” he told The Royal Gazette.
“First race had a bad start but got back up to fifth and then we were on the wrong side of a huge wind shift.
“Second race we were winning the first two legs but lost one boat going back upwind for the second time and rounded the last bottom mark in second.
“A few boats went the other way and was caught out on the wrong side of the shift again.
“It’s one of the hardest places I’ve sailed. It was a very tough day and very frustrating.”
