Young swimmer Dominic Wright bagged a gold medal at the Pan Am Aquatics 10km in Cayman Islands on Sunday.

Competing in the boys 14-15 age group, Wright completed the race, which forms part of the PanAm Aquatics Open Water Swimming Series, at Seven Mile Beach in 2hr 13min 10.33sec. His time was quick enough to finish sixth overall.

Prior to Sunday, Wright, a student at Millfield School in England, had only completed the 4km at Round the Sound in 2024 and 5km at Magog Lake, Quebec, last year.

“I was extremely happy to win gold in the 14-15 age group, but I have a lot of work to do if I want to challenge the older athletes,” Wright told The Royal Gazette.

“This was my first 10km open water swim race and my first time taking nutrition from a feeding pole. It was a memorable experience and I’m looking forward to trying it again.

“The competition was really strong, with swimmers from Brazil, Mexico, Cayman and the United States.

“I picked up a few lessons along the way, but overall, the race went very smoothly. Feeling lucky to have races in Cayman, with calm, clear water and even some sea life to spot below.”

Meanwhile, Jackson Langley has secured qualification for the United States Triathlon Youth & Junior Nationals. Langley finished third in a time of 33:34.14 at the Jenny Lee Tri Cup in the junior elite boys final on Sunday, in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania.

It will be the second time that the 17-year-old will be participating in the US Nationals, where he made his debut in 2024.

“I’m really pleased to get an automatic spot to race with the top American talent at the US Nationals,” Langley said.

“I was super pleased with my performance on Sunday leading into the race season. It was a strong field with the US triathlon 16-19 junior elite athletes, all out in full force looking to secure a spot at the US Nationals.

“With some strong runners in the field I knew that I had to lead off the bike going into T2.

“I managed to drop the pack and get a gap of close to 30 seconds. However, having done a lot of work on the bike, I couldn’t quite hold the pace going into the last third of the run and got pipped at the line.”
