King’s visit communications team gets public service award

The Government communication team dedicated to organising King Charles III’s visit to Bermuda has been given the Public Service Excellence Award for May.

The team co-ordinated an intricate three-day operation that involved photography and videography, directing local and international journalists, crafting digital media and even creating branded commemorative material.

Led by Nea Talbot, the Director of Communications, the group worked within tight timelines to balance international attention with safety and exposure, all within about four weeks.

Ms Talbot said: “This recognition is a testament to the dedication, creativity and teamwork of the Department of Communications.

“We were honoured to work with our local and overseas partners to help tell Bermuda’s story during such a significant occasion.

“This is a milestone achievement and the team is deserving of this commendation and for setting a high standard of excellence in public sector communications and event delivery.”

The King toured Bermuda between April 30 and May 2 during his first visit as the Sovereign to a British Overseas Territory.

Ms Talbot worked with local and international organisers, such as the Buckingham Palace communications team and the Commonwealth and Development Office communications team, to map out an itinerary.

The King’s Visit Team created a transportation plan to manage traffic flow, as well as security protocols to ensure safe and full access for media personnel.

International journalists were helped with accreditation, accommodations and transportation, all while making sure everyone had access to official footage, photography and live broadcast feeds for audiences at home and overseas.

David Burt, the Premier, said: “The combined work of the Department of Communication’s team surrounding the visit of His Majesty the King was nothing short of exemplary.”

Cherie Whitter, the Head of Public Service, added: “The Department of Communications' King's Visit Team demonstrated exceptional co-ordination, innovation and professionalism in delivering coverage of a visit of international significance.

“Their ability to unify multiple stakeholders and execute a seamless communications strategy under tight timelines is a shining example of public service excellence.”

The team included Ms Talbot, Keno Simmons, Antoine Hunt, Omar Gilbert, Shireeca Cambell, Honey Adams, Tari Trott, Robert Zuill, Jason Swan, Jamie McDowell, Tina Evans, Richante Basden, Jayde Gibbons, Jannell Ford, Al Seymour, Asha Ludwig, Nick-Keymin Spence, Michelle Lamb, Jessica Steede and Michael Brangman.
