Mothers of double murder victims plead for community’s help
The mothers of two teenagers who lost their lives to a double shooting two years ago today have made a heartfelt appeal for those in the community with information on the attack to come forward and help deliver justice for their children.
The call for assistance in the investigation of the murders of Razi Garland, 18, and Amon Robinson, 19, came in a joint statement from respective “mothers with a broken heart”, Renee Riley and Chrystal-Lynn El.
The two said: “We have lost count of how many shootings have happened since we lost our sons. This cannot be our new normal.
“Bermuda deserves better, and our children deserve better.
“Amon and Razi will not become forgotten cases. The very least we owe them is the truth.”
The two cousins, who were close friends, were murdered in the Scaur Hill area of Sandys shortly after 6am on July 10, 2024.
Police said there had been two people arrested in connection with the attack, but that no charges had been brought before the courts.
Investigators renewed their appeal for any relevant information, particularly from residents who may have observed suspicious persons or vehicles in the vicinity of Somerset Road and Soundview Road, Sandys, at about the time of the shooting.
A spokesman added: “Community involvement remains essential to identifying those responsible and ensuring they are brought to justice.
“All information provided will be treated with the strictest confidence. Every detail, no matter how small it may seem, could prove vital in helping deliver justice and closure to the families and the wider community.”
Anyone able to assist was urged to contact Acting Detective Inspector Anneka Donawa, the senior investigating officer, by calling 717-2250 or e-mailing adonawa@bps.bm.
Anonymous tips can also be submitted through the confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hotline, 800-8477, or its website, www.crimestoppers.bm.
The community can use the police online reporting portal, portal.police.bm, or share information with a familiar and trusted police officer.
The joint statement from their mothers said: “Two years ago, our sons Amon and Razi were taken from us. Young men with plans, with futures, with so much still to give.
“Two years later, this case remains unsolved. Two years of wondering. Two years of waiting for the truth to be publicised.
“We are asking our community: do not let their names fade into silence. Say them. Remember them. Amon Jermaine Robinson. Razi Alexander Garland. They were not statistics — they were our sons.”
They added: “Somewhere in this community, someone knows something.
“Your information could be the piece that finally brings justice for our boys.”
