An Opposition MP paid tribute to a constituent who was killed in a powerboat crash last month.

Dwayne Robinson, the Shadow Minister of Home and Community Affairs, told MPs that Rickai “Pugi” Raynor helped spark his son’s interest in bikes and said it was “jarring” for residents of Riviera Road to no longer see his water truck in the area.

Mr Raynor, brother of public works and environment minister Jaché Adams, died after sustaining a serious head injury when his vessel crashed into a moored boat in Hamilton Harbour during a Bermuda Power Boat Association race on June 28.

Mr Robinson said: “In moments like this, it’s important to remind ourselves that we are colleagues and that we can reach across the aisle in moments of tragedy like this and loss of life within each of our families and try to comfort and look out for one another in these tough times.

“I send strength to Minister Adams’s family in this tough time and hope they are receiving adequate support from all who knew Rickai.”

Kim Swan, Progressive Labour Party backbencher, associated the entire House of Assembly in sending condolences.

He said: “It was a very tragic loss and has hit his family very hard.

“I happen to know the Raynor, Adams and the Simons families very well and pray the comfort they need will be provided.”

Members of the Senate also paid tribute to Mr Raynor during the July 1 sitting, with PLP senator Lindsay Simmons saying that he loved life and his family “with all his heart”.

Mischa Fubler, another PLP senator, said that Mr Raynor lived in his constituency and explained: “We interacted on more than one occasion, so it was a great shock and disheartening to see the news over the weekend.”
