David named to new Bacardi post
The Miami Herald reported that Stella David has been named to a newly created, global position with Bermuda-based liquor giant .
Ms David had been managing director of Bacardi-Martini UK and Bacardi Netherlands but was last year tapped to be the next president of the liquor giant?s Miami-based US subsidiary.
The plan was that the British executive would eventually oversee Bacardi?s entire North American operation upon the retirement of Eduardo Sardina in July 2006.
Instead, David has taken a newly-created job as managing director for global procurement, production and manufacturing for the Bermuda-based parent company Bacardi Ltd., with additional responsibilities as managing director of the Asia-Pacific region.
Ms David, 42, who remains one of the company?s highest-ranking female executives, said she felt the global job offered her a better opportunity.
When Bacardi chairman Ruben Rodriguez added the chief executive?s responsibilities back to his job, he decided to take another look at the global liquor giant?s management structure. Mr. Rodriguez offered Ms David, 42, the choice to continue her move to the US or take the new job with the global company.
It is understood that Ms David will remain based in the UK.
?This job plays more to my strengths,? said Ms David in a telephone interview with the Herald from her office in Weybridge, England. ?I like to see myself as an agent of change and there are a lot of opportunities for that here. The US is a well run business and there were not going to be any immediate changes required.?
