A bartender pleaded guilty to being nearly three times the legal drink-driving limit at the airport.

Delano Williams, 48, from Pembroke, pleaded guilty to the offence in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

According to Nicole Smith, for the Crown, police officers were on patrol at LF Wade International Airport on August 27 when they noticed a parked car in the drop-off/pick-up area which was blocking other vehicles.

Officers approached Williams and smelt alcohol on his breath. He was taken to Hamilton Police Station, where a breathalyser test showed 234mg of alcohol in 100ml of his blood. The legal limit for driving in Bermuda is 80mg per 100ml.

Williams apologised for his actions and told the court that he was glad nobody got hurt as a result of his reckless behaviour.

Magistrate Tyrone Chin fined him $1,500 and banned him from driving all vehicles for 18 months.
