Drink-driver sentenced to court treatment programme

A man who was stopped by police in Paget has been ordered to participate in a drink-drivers’ court treatment programme.

Stevon Ascento, 44, admitted drink-driving when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court heard that police stopped Ascento, from Smith’s, at the junction of Crow Lane and Flora Duffy Hill last March.

Officers smelt alcohol on his breath and took him to Hamilton Police Station, where a breath test showed 84.5 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit for driving in Bermuda is 80mg/100ml.

Magistrate Tyrone Chin ordered Ascento, who admitted having a problem with alcohol, to attend DUI Court, beginning on March 26, and released him on $1,500 bail until that time.

He was disqualified from driving all vehicles until further notice.
