Senior officer in court on impaired driving charge
A senior police officer will be tried in Supreme Court on a charge of causing grievous bodily harm by dangerous driving.
Superintendent Jerome Laws, 56, who was promoted in 2024 and whose roles have included working with the professional standards department, appeared on Tuesday in Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Auralee Cassidy.
Mr Laws, who has served with the Bermuda Police Service for several decades, was also accused of refusing a breath test.
Both incidents are alleged to have occurred on December 19 in Warwick.
Karim Nelson, the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, appeared on behalf of the Crown. Mr Laws was represented by defence lawyer Charles Richardson.
Mr Laws was not required to plead as the charges were indictable. He will appear in Supreme Court at the June arraignments session.
He was released until that time on $5,000 bail.
