Rangers set sets on Lindo’s Twenty20 title

Winning feeling: Southampton Rangers skipper Dion Stovell (centre) receives the Logic Knockout Championshp Cup after his team defeated St David's at Sea Breeze Oval at the weekend. Rangers take on Willow Cuts in the Lindo's T20 semi-final on Saturday, with the final to be played the following day. Both games will be held at Sea Breeze Oval.

Southampton Rangers skipper Dion Stovell has praised his side for their focus in Sunday’s triumph over St David’s and has now zeroed in on the Lindo’s Twenty20 title this weekend.Rangers made a big statement with their win over the Islanders at Sea Breeze Oval in the Knockout Championship Cup finals, with seamers Janeiro Tucker (3-9) and Ryan Belboda (3-11) inflicting the heaviest damage with the ball.Left-arm spinner Derrick Brangman (2-6) prevented the tail from wagging as they secured a comprehensive win.Stovell also played a role in the win, leading the run chase with 38 runs from 33 balls that included seven fours before he was out three runs shy of the required total.“I thought we played well, we play as a unit, stuck to plan that was laid out for us and in the end we reaped the benefits of the hard work put in,” said Stovell.“We knocked down a good team in St David’s cheaply and overall we are pleased with having another cup in the cabinet.“It wasn’t a matter of doubt with the weather, we were chasing 74 in 27 overs and there were more balls than runs so we needed to put our heads down and get on with the task at hand.“The run rate was three runs an over so there wasn’t any rush for us.”Rangers will look to continue their winning ways when they face in-form Western Counties rivals Willow Cuts on Saturday in their T20 semi-final at Sea Breeze Oval.Stovell knows what must be done in order to make their third final of the season and redeem themselves from the home league loss at the hands of Cuts.In that match, Kevon Fubler snatched four wickets to lead Cuts to a 25-run win, although Stovell himself blasted 67 in his innings.Former Rangers all-rounder, Malachi Jones, also played a key role in that win with his boundary-laden 94.The Southampton club exacted revenge in the Counties to level the series at one apiece.“The win over St David’s gives us confidence heading into the T20 semi on Saturday, but that won’t be an easy ride either.“Willow Cuts are our rivals and we always want to beat them and that won’t change come Saturday.“We need to take every game as it comes and go from there, we don’t need to get ahead of ourselves, we have been doing a good job thus far and want to keep it up.”Eastern Counties rivals Bailey’s Bay and St David’s do battle in the first match (11am) of the double-header.Rangers and Willow Cuts will clash at 3pm, with the final being held on Sunday at the same venue, beginning at 3pm.
