Southampton Rangers will today pay homage to the legacy of late cricketer Sheridan Raynor, who led the club to numerous honours during a distinguished career.

The club is hosting the 2nd Annual Sheridan Raynor Community Day with a fun-filled day of activities in store for the family — both on and off the pitch.

The event kicks off at 1pm with an Old Boys’ 30-overs cricket match between the Sheridan Blues and Harley Rangers featuring former club players such as John Tucker, George “Friday” Bremar and Woodgate Simmons, along with players from other clubs.

The Sheridan Blues will be captained by Ricky Brangman, the former Rangers captain, who now coaches the club’s Premier Division side.

Quinton Sherlock, the former Rangers wicketkeeper and opening batsman, will lead the Harley Rangers who are named after Raynor’s late father Harley Raynor.

Three former players whose identities have been withheld will also be honoured during proceedings while five juniors will be selected to participate in a bowl off for various prizes.

A fun castle, food and beverages, face painting and music has been provided all free of charge.

Late all-rounder Raynor died in 2011 aged 78 — five years after being inducted into the Bermuda Sports Hall of Fame.

He was the first batsman to score 1,000 runs in the Western Counties competition, first Bermuda batsman to score a century against first-class opposition (Cricketers Club of London) and first to score a century in Cup Match on a turf batting strip.

“Sheridan Raynor was everything to Rangers so it’s only fitting that we honour this gentleman,” said present player Kwame Tucker, who is the chairman of the event’s organising committee. He was a great player, captain and groundsman for the club who has done a lot for the community so we have to do this in his honour.

“The day is all about celebrating our community and the legacy of Sheridan Raynor, who means a lot to the club.”
