Two arrested at weekend for drink-driving
Two motorists were arrested over the weekend after their blood alcohol levels indicated they were above the legal limit, police said.
The Bermuda Police Service said arrests were also effected for outstanding warrants.
On Saturday shortly before 11pm, officers were conducting a traffic exercise along Middle Road, near Morgan Road, Warwick, when a motorcyclist was clocked travelling at 58km/h.
A spokesman said after the rider was stopped, he appeared unsteady on his feet. The 28-year-old Warwick resident denied drinking.
However, officers detected a strong smell of alcohol on his breath and noticed that his words were slurred.
An alco-analyser test showed the rider’s blood alcohol level to be almost double the legal limit of 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
The man was also arrested for possession of a sharply pointed article in a public place after officers recovered a folding knife from his front right pocket.
On Friday at about 11pm, officers were conducting speed checks at the junction of South Road and Bellevue Drive, Paget when a motorcyclist was clocked travelling at 61km/h.
The man was stopped and officers detected a strong smell of alcohol on his breath. They asked him to step off the motorcycle and observed his eyes were glazed.
The 31-year-old Warwick resident was arrested on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle whilst impaired.
He was taken to Hamilton Police Station where an alco-analyser test showed his blood alcohol level to be almost four times the legal limit of 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
The spokesman said both men were expected to appear before the courts.
