Top Canadians to take on Bermuda’s best

A four man and two women team from the Pro City Racing Bike Shop in Victoria, British Columbia, will come to Bermuda to compete in the Butterfield Cycling Grand Prix.The event, which is to be held April 19, 20 and 21, will be the second year that the Canadian team will participate in the event.“We are excited to continue our strong ties with Bermuda” said team owner Bill Fry.“Two of our sponsored triathletes, Jasper Blake and Mike Neill, have already held a number of triathlon camps in Bermuda and we were delighted to host Bermuda’s Dominique Mayho who competed in Victoria last year. Last year our team faced stiff competition from Bermuda’s outstanding teams and it is a great opportunity for some of our team riders to gain valuable experience. “Returning to Bermuda will be Jamie Cameron and Alex Hui, two experienced riders who finished fifth and ninth in the overall standing last year, while Geordie Morrison and Roland Rabien will be visiting Bermuda for the first time.Youngster Morrison is an exciting prospect who recently joined Pro City Racing. Looking to provide support for the team will be Roland Rabien, a rapidly improving cyclist who has prepared well over the winter for this trip.Sylvia Storry and Jen Dosil were relative newcomers to cycling when they took fourth and seventh place respectively in the overall ladies’ standings in Bermuda last year.Following another year of regular competition with the Pro City Racing Sistas team they will be hoping to move up the overall standings this year.Racing in the Butterfield Grand Prix gets underway on the Friday evening in St George’s Town Square with a time trial, followed by a road race on Saturday morning starting at Clearwater Beach in St. David’s. The final event of the weekend will be the criterion which will take place in Hamilton on Sunday morning.The Grand Prix will feature all of Bermuda’s cycling teams and will include defending men’s champion Mayho, who dominated last year’s events, winning all three stages on his way to the overall win.
