The Garden Club brought a taste of spring to Hamilton this week as part of their latest “flower flash’.

The display featured sunflowers, snapdragons and lilies at the corner of Reid and Burnaby Streets.

A spokeswoman for the club, which uses a lily as its logo, said they were thrilled by the public reaction to the displays.

She said: “People are still talking about the Birdcage.

“The messages on social media are ’beautiful’, ’stunning’, ’exquisite’, ’fabulous creation’, ’thanks for cheering things up’ and many more, all wonderful and appreciative.”

She said flower flashes started in late 2016 in New York City with top florist Lewis Miller at the helm.

The spokeswoman said: “We thought we would bring the concept to Bermuda to spread happiness, lift spirits, put a smile on people’s faces, beautify the Island, engage the community and support the local farmers.

“Our first one in April was to kick off our celebratory year as The Garden Club of Bermuda celebrated its 100th Anniversary on April 4 and in recognition of our essential workers.

“This latest one was to welcome people back to town after the stay at home period was lifted and to mark the reopening of the stores as some of the restrictions were relaxed.”

Dwayne Caines, CEO of the Corporation of Hamilton, said: “It is our delight to be able to support the Garden Club of Bermuda by hosting their beautiful displays which are so vibrant and attractive.

“At the City of Hamilton, we are always open to community organisations looking to engage people in this way.

“I want to congratulate the Garden Club of Bermuda on their 100th anniversary and thank them for their continued philanthropic endeavours.”

The flowers used came from Nature’s Harvest Nursery, Amaral, Pacheco & Sons, Wadson’s and Windybank Farms.
