Flight delivers 1,800 kits and 129 residents
A British Airways charter flight returned 129 people who had been stranded in Britain to the island yesterday.
The aircraft delivered passengers, including seniors and students, as well as 1,800 virus test kits and personal protection equipment for emergency personnel.
Residents were taken for a mandatory 14-day quarantine at a government-approved centre.
John Rankin, the Governor, thanked Bermudian personnel who assisted, as well as the Government's London office for ensuring that “the elderly, young people and vulnerable persons were given priority”.
The flight, arranged with the British Government, came from Heathrow Airport and touched down in Bermuda at about 2pm.
The plane later flew on to the Cayman Islands, taking 59 residents of the UK Overseas Territory home, as well as emergency supplies.
The flight also carried a British coronavirus advisory team bound for the Turks & Caicos Islands, also a UK Overseas Territory.
The aircraft was scheduled to return to Britain with 103 British residents stuck in the Caribbean because of flight cancellations.
