Entrants of this year’s Relay for Life will be given free DNA tests that can provide them with personalised health insights.

About 100 participants of the popular event are signed up and will be given the complimentary tests thanks to the collaborative efforts of CariGenetics, Prostate Awareness Bermuda and CG Insurance.

Organisers said the initiative celebrates the resilience of those affected by cancer and aims to empower them with individualised health information for a “holistic” approach to their health and wellness.

The annual fundraiser for the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre takes place tomorrow and Saturday at the National Sports Centre with an emphasis on men’s health and with the goal of supporting programmes that tackle cancer.

John Payne, a founding member of PAB, said: “Too often, men put their health on the back burner, especially when it comes to prevention and personalised care.

“This partnership with CariGenetics and CG Insurance is a vital opportunity to empower men, particularly those affected by cancer, to take charge of their wellbeing through advanced and accessible genetic tools.”

The kits will be available at booth 57 which CariGenetics will be sharing with PAB.

The organisers said the tests analyse an individual’s genetic blueprint to provide customised guidance on various aspects of wellness.

They include nutrition, fitness, skincare and personality readings, and can help participants to understand the foods and activities that best suit their genetic make-up.

The aim of the venture is to give long-term support to survivors, carers and others in the community as part of their journey towards optimal health.

Carika Weldon, the founder and chief executive of CariGenetics, said: “Relay for Life is a celebration of strength, resilience and community. We are honoured to give back to those who have given so much of themselves.

“As many may know, my grandmother, Marie Gibbons, was lost to cancer in 2017. This, for me, is personal.”

Dr Weldon said through personalised insights from wellness testing, the organisers hope to support the cancer community in living their healthiest and fullest lives.

Participants who wish to receive a complimentary Wellness Test can preregister by completing a form available here and then visiting the booth during the event to take the test.

Alternatively, preregistration can be done by contacting CariGgenetics by phone at 621-6302.
