Wedco yesterday announced plans to stage an historical re-enactment in Dockyard and a new concession at Sea Glass Beach. The new Black Bay Beach & Park concession will offer snorkelling around the scenic chain of beaches, and will also rent hammocks, inflatables, chairs and umbrellas. Food and drinks will also be available.Black Bay adjoins Sea Glass Beach just before the entrance to Dockyard. The new concession will be operated by businessman Vic Ball, who said he will be sure to request visitors don’t take the sea glass. The new concession is due to open April 11.At a breakfast for the business community, Wedco also announced this morning it will stage a new historical re-enactment in Dockyard for the thousands of visiting cruise passengers.Wedco officials said the new event would be similar in ways to the St George’s ducking stool event and feature a wench and the firing of a cannon.Wedco officials said the event will entertain tourists but also help alleviate the crush at the ferry terminal. It will be a unique story, written and directed by Barbara Jones, who was behind the Wrecked on the Rock play.Wedco said they are currently casting for three roles for the re-enactment, which will be based around Dockyard’s history with some “dramatic licence”, Ms Jones said. The Dockyard re-enactment will take place Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9:30am by the moongate. It will kick off May 15 and run through October 13.“It is a take off of the ducking stool event in St. George’s,“ Wedco business development manager Raymond Tannock said.“But this is Dockyard and ours is going to be a little different.”Mr Tannock also revealed Wedco was in the process of selecting between two parties who answered RFPs to stage a Monday night event during the cruise season. And he said the area will host a go-kart race this year, along with other sporting events.Among the new businesses opening their doors in Dockyard as the 2013 cruise season approaches, are: Bermuda Fun Golf, Locust and Wild Honey, Kolours, and a planned frozen yoghurt store.Joanna Cranfield, Wedco assistant business development manager, has said there were still spaces and buildings for retailers, and anyone with a business idea for the Dockyard area was encouraged to contact Wedco officials.
