Air Canada hands out free flights
hundreds of passengers last month.
Toronto's Pearson Airport shut down after blizzards struck in the first week of January.
And passengers on their way to Bermuda had to go via Boston and stay in hotels overnight before they finally got home.
Now Air Canada has offered members of their Aeroplan scheme 1,500 air miles as compensation.
A letter sent to one local customer of the airline said: "As a gesture of apology for any inconvenience you may have experienced, I have taken the liberty of awarding you 15,000 Aeroplan miles -- enough to claim a Hospitality Service Aeroplan reward ticket for a short-haul Air Canada flight within Canada or between Canada and the continental USA.'' The letter added: "While we can never truly make up for the frustration you were likely caused, we hope you will believe that our regret is sincere.'' One passenger who was stranded by the weather said: "We were really well looked after at the time -- they paid for the hotels and everything -- this is a very nice gesture from Air Canada.'' WELCOME TO BERMUDA NEVER MIND THE SMELL FLY Welcome to Bermuda never mind the smell Visitors arriving at Bermuda's International Airport were left holding their noses as they filed through Customs at the weekend.
For the brand new facility experienced problems with one of several sewage tanks on site.
The Airport's engineering and maintenance manager, Marshall Minors, explained that the tanks are cleaned out regularly by a hired contractor -- but one of the tanks must have been missed when the contractor last did his rounds.
"We did have a problem with one of the septic tanks at the weekend,'' Mr.
Minors confirmed. "We have several tanks here at the Airport and there's a monthly contract to get them cleaned. I guess this one hadn't been done for a while.'' The contract agent was contacted on Sunday, as soon as the odour was detected, and the tank was eventually dealt with on Monday.
Mr. Minors was happy to report that normal service at the Airport has now been resumed.
