Sunset Series for the summer
while sipping cocktails. Or for that matter take a ferry ride to Snorkle Park to hear local entertainment and try some Bermudian cuisine. That's what Gosling's Sunset Series is offering both locals and visitors. What better way to spend your Thursday and Friday evenings until October! Every week there is a variety of different entertainment both old and new from the likes of Hubert Smith and the Paradise band to the United Production dancers, and the H and H gombeys.
"We are offering a cruise around the Island on the MV Longtail with live entertainment, food, and cocktails. And we are taking people to Paradise Lake to watch the sunset,'' talent coordinator Gina Spence said.
She added: "And then on the way back we get into the soca dancing. It definitely takes on that party flavour.'' Ms Spence also said that on Friday evenings people can take the ferry or bus to the Snorkle Park in Dockyard where they are greeted with an array of live entertainment, Bermudian cuisine and lots of fun.
"There's the Frog N' Onion serving up a menu including dishes like peas n' rice and conch stew and Gosling's will have a bar. There will be live entertainment every week with entertainers like the Coca Cola Steel Band, H and H gombeys and the Warwick gombeys alternating every week along with Hubert Smith, United Production Dancers, Paradise Band and limbo dancer Gigi to name a few. There is a variety of entertainment.'' Ms Spence said the whole focus behind the Sunset Series is to try and give local entertainers and performers a venue in which they can be featured, a place where they can perform for the tourists, and a place where they can be employed.
"This will run right through until October, so they will be performing even in the slow months.
"The Thursday night cruise will be $18 for food and complimentary drinks and there will be free admittance into the Snorkle Park but you will have to pay for drinks and food at a low cost,'' Ms Spence added.
She added that this particular project was the brainchild of David Durham from Yoshi Limited.
"He has been working with this in conjunction with the Department of Tourism and Gosling's which are the two sponsors of the event.
"We wanted to do a total Bermuda showcase on a professional level. A lot of time we don't get to do a series or a project of this magnitude where it's all Bermudian. We are really proud of that.
"These are some of the outcries of the community, they want to see our locals out on the circuit working professionally.'' Ms Spence also said: "Some of the groups performing may never have performed under this umbrella -- you have veterans with newcomers and basically it is an opportunity for the artists. This is a springboard for bigger and better things to come.'' She added that locals are encouraged to enjoy Gosling's Sunset Series as it is not just for visitors to the Island.
"This is the perfect thing for locals to bring their visitors to, convention groups or just their own families.'' She added: "We have also invited local vendors to come out to Snorkle Park with their creative things. We will also have an artist painting portraits.
"The atmosphere is really beautiful. Most people who go into the Snorkle Park are amazed, the ambiance is incredible.'' Ms Spence said that anyone interested in attending the Thursday night activities must make reservations by calling Yoshi Limited at 292-0282 or the Department of Tourism.
"Even though we have so many artists that are scheduled to appear throughout the summer, we are keeping the door open for others. We have a set schedule and we still have spaces open,'' Ms Spence added.
She also said that comedian Bootsie will be the MC on Friday nights at the Snorkle Park.
"This is an opportunity for families to come out and enjoy themselves and there is a beach at the Snorkle Park if their kids want to go swimming.'' Ms Spence added: "I'm really excited that this is now a reality, that it's up and going and it's going really well.'' GOSLING'S SUNSET SERIES -- Organisers of Gosling's Sunset Series which will be every Thursday and Friday evening until October are from left Malcolm Gosling Jr., talent coordinator Gina Spence, Tourism Minister David Dodwell, and creator David Durham.
