Be on your guard over Christmas, women urged
Women have been urged to be on their guard over Christmas amid fears a serial sex attacker is on the prowl.
The warning came from the Women?s Resource Centre, which has been working with Police.
Executive director Penny Dill said women were particularly vulnerable over Christmas as they tended to go to parties.
?Women must be sure to be aware of their surroundings, watch their drinks and try and go home in a taxi with a friend they can trust rather than going home with someone they don?t know.?
Meanwhile, Police are not releasing any more details about a suspected serial sex attacker ? despite a weekend assault.
In the latest incident a young woman at a Paget guest house reported a sexual assault on Saturday night.
There was also an alleged attempted sex assault about an hour or so later in Southampton and a report of a man lurking around a Paget residence.
Yesterday a Bermuda Police Service spokesman said he would not be releasing more information.
Recently a number of women have gone to the Police, claiming they have been sexually assaulted in their homes.
Police have released little information about the attacks or attacker, but they have confirmed the women all live in Southampton, Warwick and Paget. Entrance was gained via an unlocked door or window.
The Police has not released any identifying features about the man.
At a Press conference in November Acting Assistant Commissioner Sinclair White said officers had to be careful how much information they released at this stage in the investigation.
?It would be inappropriate for the Bermuda Police Service to comment any further at this stage as the investigations are still very active and we wish to protect the integrity of those investigations.?
In the wake of this, a group representing sexual assault victims told that Police had to give as much information as possible about the incidents to alert women on the Island to any danger.
In November Ms Dill also called for the Police to release a description of the suspect to help Island residents.
Yesterday she said the WRC had been working with the Police and asked women to remain vigilant and careful, especially over Christmas.
