Cliff man dies

A man who fell from a cliff on the South Shore on Sunday afternoon and suffered serious head injuries died in hospital on Monday night He has been named as Pedro Medeiros from Hamilton parish.It is believed he has three brothers and has been living on the Island for two years having arrived from the Azores. The 37 year old is thought to have been either fishing or walking along the cliff top near Spittal Pond in Smith's when he fell between 20ft and 25ft and landed on rocks shortly after 4 p.m.

A man who fell from a cliff on the South Shore on Sunday afternoon and suffered serious head injuries died in hospital on Monday night He has been named as Pedro Medeiros from Hamilton parish.

It is believed he has three brothers and has been living on the Island for two years having arrived from the Azores. The 37 year old is thought to have been either fishing or walking along the cliff top near Spittal Pond in Smith's when he fell between 20ft and 25ft and landed on rocks shortly after 4 p.m.

He was knocked unconscious and needed to be pulled back up the cliff in a basket by firefighters and members of the public.

Despite being rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and given intensive care treatment Mr. Medeiros succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 10 p.m. on Monday. Inquiries are ongoing.

Top Policeman in court

Top Policeman Stuart Crockwell will appear in Magistrates' Court today charged with one count of stealing.

Det. Chief Insp. Crockwell will not be required to enter a plea to the indictable charge of stealing about $35,000 from David Bascome in December 2004.

Det. Chief Insp. Crockwell was suspended on two-thirds pay from his post as head of the Serious Crimes Unit early this year.

Lawyer Mark Pettingill told The Royal Gazette: “He intends to defend his character fully.”
