Dangerous driver banned

A man who admitted driving dangerously was fined and banned from the roads for one year on Wednesday.

Howard Ascento, 18, of Town Hill, Smith's, admitted the charge plus another of having no driving licence when he appeared at Magistrates' Court.

Crown counsel Wayne Caines said Police officers saw Ascento on March 3, driving a pickup truck on Parsons Road in Devonshire with a motorcycle in the rear.

He continued along Parsons Lane and the Police activated their blue lights and signalled for him to stop.

However, he increased his speed and headed towards Orange Valley Road at 55-65 kph, failing to observe a stop sign and narrowly missing a Works and Engineering vehicle which was cleaning the road.

He eventually stopped on Cedar Park Road and told the officers: "I'm sorry. I should have stopped but I had a warrant."

The defendant told the court yesterday: "I'm sorry. It won't happen again."

Acting Senior Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo banned him from driving for 12 months and fined him a total of $900.
