E-signs designed to put brakes on speed demons
Motorists who enjoy speeding are being urged to slow down with two new signs on East Broadway. One of the electronic signs, in the shadow of the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute, has been warning motorists to slow down and wear their seatbelts. Another, across the street, will clock the speed limit of drivers once it?s up and running in a few weeks.
The signs are designed to curtail drivers with a penchant for speeding on one of the Island?s busiest thoroughfares.
?The Ministry of Works and Engineering and Housing continues with its phased plans of erecting special speed detector monitors in various locations around the Island,? a Ministry spokesperson said. Testing for the speed detection sign began this week and is expected to fully operational early in the new year. Another similar signs is located at Kindley Field Road in St. George?s.
?Members of the public will recall that Whitney Institute Middle School was the first school to receive a prototype speed monitor,? the spokesperson said. ?Plans are in the works to erect another sign on Middle Road near the Southampton Glebe Primary School.?
Making good progress is the School Zone Safety project, with anti-skid materials, distinctive road markings and signs also being placed at Port Royal Primary, Paget Primary, Southampton Glebe Primary, Bermuda College and Gilbert Institute.
