Mother is still seeking answers after hit-and-run on Court Street

A mother who is angry at the Police response when an alleged hit-and-run driver crashed into her family car will complain to Commissioner George Jackson.

As The Royal Gazette first reported on August 31, Mickeala Wears claims the motorist struck her car on Court Street late on August 27, while her four children were inside.

According to Miss Wears, the driver of a silver VW Polo pulled out and crossed to the opposite side of the road, causing what she describes as "major damage" to the side of her car. It then reversed and drove away.

She is angry that it took Police around 40 minutes to arrive at the scene after the incident, and that it was not captured on newly-installed CCTV cameras on Court Street. She now plans to write a letter to Mr. Jackson this week, to outline her concerns.

"The Bermuda Police service needs major attention; that's why our community is falling apart and the youth have no respect for the policemen. Court cases become unsolved because they cannot even get enough or no evidence for the most critical cases," said Miss Wears.

"I might as well go sit outside the club and sell drugs because at least one of the cameras should have been recording that area simply because it is a bar where a murder could take place. CCTV is ludicrous. Why place cameras out there?"
