Police pledge crack down on road safety
With three men in the intensive care unit of the hospital with serious and potentially life threatening injuries sustained in road traffic collisions over the last week, Police are cracking down on road safety again.
In recent weeks members of the Roads Policing Unit have stepped up their efforts to combat illegal and anti-social behaviour on the roads.
Chief inspector Nick Pedro, officer in charge of the Policing Support Department said: "We acknowledge, and recognise that certain segments of the community continue to use the roads as their own personal playground for all manner of vehicles and driving behaviour.
"Effective immediately, the Bermuda Police Service Roads Policing Unit will be working extended hours to bring compliance with road laws back into accepted parameters."
The Roads Policing Unit, coupled with officers from Operation Safer Streets and the regular watch patrols will be utilising a number of strategies to tackle issues such as speed, dangerous driving and driving without due care and attention, tinted windows, illegal license plates, impaired driving and all identified offences.
"Also we are advising all of the motoring public to lock their cycles and to leave them in a well-lit area and to use a supplementary lock to support the lock that comes with the cycle," Chief Inspector Pedro said.
"Take away the opportunity and reduce your chances of becoming a victim."
