Cannonier hails Agricultural Exhibition as showcase of Bermudian talent

Premier Craig Cannonier greets some of the younger visitors at the Agricultural Exhibition.

The 75th Agricultural Exhibition got off to a brisk start today with hundreds of spectators and large pre-school groups of toddlers.Environment Minister Sylvan Richards and Premier Craig Cannonier were both in attendance for the event, held under bright, sunny skies.Mr Richards told the crowd present that the rising cost of food should encourage more people to grow their own.Premier Cannonier hailed the event as a prime showcase for Bermudian talent and culture.The Agricultural Exhibition presents a wonderful opportunity for residents and visitors to come together, he said.Governor George Fergusson also attended the annual event at the Botanical Gardens in Paget, where he made the rounds of the various displays.Asked if he has a "green thumb" he said that title in the family is held by his wife, Margaret.Prize presentations for agricultural and animal entries are now underway in the main ring as the schedule for day one of the three-day event moves into high gear.An even bigger crowd is expected tomorrow, when schools will be closed so that students might attend.For more pictures click here
