Guilty of illegally breeding chihuahuas
A Sandys woman found herself before Magistrates’ Court yesterday for illegally breeding chihuahuas.
Amanda Pacheco, 35, pleaded guilty to breeding the dogs without a licence, having an unlicensed male and female chihuahua and keeping ten dogs on a property without the authority of the director of environmental protection.
The court heard that animal wardens visited her Somerset Road home on November 14, 2013, in response to reports of an illegal litter of puppies.
Pacheco admitted having the puppies, but told the officers that she had already given the animals away. She subsequently said that she had eight puppies on the property.
She pleaded guilty to the charges in court, explaining that the breeding was “not intentional”.
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered a social inquiry report be carried out on Pacheco, releasing her on $2,000 bail and telling her to return to the court on July 11 for sentencing.
