Construction challenge for students

CedarBridge Academy

Local students will get the chance to showcase their talents in the construction industry when they take part in the Kids in Construction competition.

The Construction Association of Bermuda, as well as several companies, are sponsoring the project which will involve Middle School and High School pupils.

Students from Sandys Middle School, Dellwood Middle School, Bermuda High School for Girls and Warwick Academy are competing for best mailbox design and construction.

And those from CedarBridge Academy and The Berkeley Institute will go head to head, with two teams each, designing and building garden sheds.

Both the sheds and the mailboxes will be auctioned and sold to the highest bidder.

“Visit Washington Mall, Phase 3, Lower Level (near Beluga Bar and the Food Court) during regular opening hours to view the entries and place your bids,” explained a CAOB statement.

“Overall winners will be the garden shed and mailbox that garners the highest bid. Other categories include: Most Creative Design, Most Bermuda-centric Design, Best Use of Recycled Materials, and for the Garden Sheds, Best Business Plan and Best Provision of Storage.

“There are certificates, trophies, cash for D&T/Art Departments, and individual prizes, plus gift bags for participants.”

The auction runs from February 25 at 10am until Thursday, March 2 at 5pm. Bids may be made in person or on the CAOB Facebook page beginning on Monday, February 27.

The mailboxes and garden sheds will be on public display from Saturday, February 25 through to Friday, March 3.
