Police warned the public yesterday to be on the alert for spiked drinks.A police spokesman said: “Summer may almost be over, but there are still lots of parties taking place, not to mention nightclubs being frequented with the easing of Covid-19 restrictions.“With that in mind, the BPS is urging members of the public to exercise caution when out socialising and pay particular attention not to leave their drinks, alcoholic or otherwise, unattended. Also, you should always purchase your own drink and watch as it is being poured. “If offered a drink by someone and you accept, again, make sure you watch as it is being poured.” The spokesman said people should not accept drinks from strangers or leave their drink unattended. He added: “Don’t consume or taste anyone else’s drink and if you think that your own drink tastes odd, immediately throw it away. If you suspect that your drink may have been spiked, inform your company and ask to be taken to a safe place.“If you are alone, get trusted help. Call a friend or relative to come get you and take you to a medical facility as a precaution.”The spokesman said that symptoms of a spiked drink included feeling dizzy or faint, ill or sleepy, or feeling drunk even when people have only had a small amount of alcohol.
