Sixes boost for the blind
succession.
The company will donate $200 to the Bermuda Society for the Blind every time a batsman clears the ropes in the annual classic on July 29 and 30. Spokesman John Instone said: "The idea grew from a suggestion by a member of our staff three years ago and it's since caught the imagination not only of cricket fans, but also the players and radio commentators.
"We thought the Bermuda Society for the Blind was a very suitable charity because, for the blind, Cup Match is so much an audio rather than a visual event.
"We know many blind people listen to the commentaries on the radio and we hope they will be encouraged every time they hear the crowd cheer for another six.'' Last year Cable & Wireless stumped up $4,200 after 21 sixes were hit, three more than the first year donations were made.
