Teenage Bermudian squash star Nick Kyme continued his progress with a fine performance in the Scottish Junior Open Championship in Edinburgh.
Kyme, who at 16 has just moved into the under 19 division, breezed through the qualifying rounds, beat Malaysia's number two player in the main draw, before succumbing to Scottish star Steven Halliday in his next match, 9-7, 9-2, 9-3.
He got off to a nervous start in his opening match against South African Michael Marcus, but fought through to a 3-1 victory. In his second qualifying tie against Colombian Javiar Castilla, he took a 2-0 lead before being pegged back to 2-2. Down 4-1 in the decider. But he showed great character to come from behind with a 9-7 win to put him into the main draw. There, he produced his best squash to slaughter Aaron Soyza 9-3, 9-0, 9-0.
He now faces a play-off for a final placing before travelling to Sheffield, in South Yorkshire, for the British Open.
