Children as young as five are to be targeted in a tennis coaching programme aimed at developing talent in all the Island's schools.
The scheme will put in place a pyramid structure with the youngest being introduced to the game in a fun environment using paddles and sponge balls.
They will progress through short court tennis, the full court game and ultimately to inter school competitions and regional tournaments.
Sheila Gomez, who was previously involved with the junior elite squads, has been appointed as the co-ordinator for the scheme, which is being financed by Bermuda Lawn Tennis Associaton in collaboration with the International Tennis Federation.
Her job will be to get the ball rolling by introducing the make-up of the scheme to PE teachers who can then be responsible for its day-to-day running in their own establishments.
